The Essex Women’s Advisory Group (EWAG) was set up to combat the negative stereotyping of girls living in Essex, which leads to them feeling disadvantaged and disenfranchised. Our women and girls should not feel that they need to say they are from East Anglia or outside London rather than from Essex. We want to empower Essex women and girls, to broaden their vision, self-worth and belief, and to inspire them to reach further and higher.

Since 2010, we have built up the EWAG Charitable Fund so that we can support Essex-based women's charities helping those in distress and need, as well as fund projects that promote women and girl's learning and success in science, technology, the arts, sports and business. Our charitable fund is administered by the Essex Community Foundation (ECF).

We are also a networking body, bringing together the resources of a group of concerned people, both professionals and volunteers. Our board includes representatives from Essex Police, the University of Essex, The Prince's Trust, Probation services, Girl Guides, commerce, philanthropy, mental health, local government and the Women's Institute. Together we hope to share our experience and expertise for the good of Essex Women and Girls.

Essex Community Foundation (ECF) (Reg. Charity No. 1052061), is an independent charitable trust set up in 1996 which manages funds and distributes grants on behalf of donors. Please visit for more information
